| Details : | As a pilot and a Flight commander of a logistical air support squadron between February 1960 and January 1962, Flight Lieutenant Baldev Singh has carried out more than 1200 hours of operational flying over NEFA and NHTA. All this flying was done on single engine aircraft, which had to operate from small unmanned landing grounds situated in narrow and dangerous valleys, and unpredictable weather conditions. Earlier, he served two years in a transport squadron in the J & K area. He has shown great courage and devotion to duty in successfully carrying out the tasks assigned to him. | ||||

| Details : |  Flight Lieutenant Suresh Chandra Bhakay has been employed in a logistical air support squadron in NEFA and Nagaland since April 1962. He has flown more than 1500 hours on single engine aircraft and has made 575 landings at advanced landing grounds, mostly situated I hilly terrain where flying hazards were aggravated by strong cross winds and generally unfavourable weather conditions. On several occasions, he was called upon to undertake on an average five hours of flying per day for months together. Flight Lieutenant Bhakay has carried out the tasks assigned to him in an admirable manner and has displayed commendable courage and professional skill. | ||||

| Details : |  Flying Officer Jagbir Singh Rai has been serving with a Logistic Support Squadron in NEFA. He has carried out nearly 600 operational sorties and has made nearly .500 landings in forward airfield/advance landing grounds. On 29th February 1964, Flying Officer Rai was on an operational mission flying from Dinjan to Tilling in NEFA. When the aircraft came over a river valley surrounded by high mountains and snow covered peaks, he heard a loud noise in the engine and experienced a sudden loss of power. Realising that there was no suitable area for a forced landing. Flying Officer Rai immediately turned back towards the nearest airfield at Pasighat. When he was about 10 miles from there, his engine caught fire, and thick smoke and oil covered the entire windscreen and obscured his view. Though nearly chocked by smoke he tried lo control the fire. Ultimately he crash-landed in a small river bed, sustaining severe injuries to his legs and arms. He extricated himself from the wreckage, crawled to a pool of water nearby and stayed there till he was rescued. Flying Officer Jagbir Singh Rai displayed courage and professional skill of a high order. | ||||

| Details : |  Squadron Leader A.B. Patil joined the Air Force in the ranks in 1942. He was commissioned in the GD (P) Branch in 1945. He was appointed Squadron Leader in 1956. He has also served as Commanding Officer of a Logistic Air Force Squadron. Under his leadership this Squadron has carried out over 3,000 hours of flying in less than a year despite difficult flying conditions. Since the arrival of No. 59 Logistics Air Support Squadron in Assam area, they have been putting in consistent efforts. The difficulties connected with flying conditions that obtain in Assam Valley and using Advance landing grounds are factors already well-known. Despite these handicaps, the Squadron has carried out over 3000 hours of flying in less than a year. Faced with shortage of aircrew as well as ground crew and with limited resources that are available, Sqn. Ldr. Patil has led the Squadron into a bunch of willing workers. During this time, he has himself put in 600 hours of flying and by his hard work, enthusiasm and leadership instilled into the younger pilots, keenness and devotion to duty. During his service, Squadron Leader Patil has shown skill and devotion to duty of a high order. The achievement of No. 59 L.A.S Squadron is mainly due to an example set up by their Commanding Officer Sqn. Ldr. Patil. His devotion to duty, tenacity and will are of the highest order. | ||||
